Afrika Yetu Inc. is a cultural hub, building bridges between African immigrants and the American community.

Afrika Yetu works to unite people through education, the arts and social networks.

Education

Our educational mission is twofold:

1. For the general community: To create an understanding of the vastly diverse people, cultures and social issues of the African continent. We offer music and dance workshops, school residencies, and wellness and community-building programs.

 2. For Africans living in the Pittsburgh region: To provide the tools and skills necessary to ease the often difficult transition into American life and culture.

The Arts

Our mission in the arts is to not only bring African music to new audiences, but to foster artist collaborations across the disciplines.

We want to show the world how Africa’s music is connected to music, dance and other arts across the world, especially in this modern age.

We are creating ways to bring together performers; we are working to build bridges here in the City of Bridges, in the United States, and across the world!

Social Networks

When African immigrants arrive here, they often feel alone and overwhelmed. Connecting with other Africans in their situation gives these immigrants the support they need to pursue the American dream.

Afrika Yetu helps to put recent African immigrants -- professionals, students and refugees alike -- in contact with other Africans currently living in the Pittsburgh area. These connections foster entrepreneurship and friendship and improve family life.
